SÃO MIGUEL NATURE WONDERS
About The Project
Since I was a child I wanted to visit the Azores, an archipelago in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Recently I was lucky enough to travel to the biggest of the 9 islands, São Miguel. This island is characterized by high costal cliffs, lagoons in craters of dormant volcanos and rugged and verdant terrains. My mission was to capture its natural beauty and the amazing wildlife we can find there, which has been under pressure due to an increase of tourism and other human activities.
These islands of volcanic origin are truly spectacular, a paradise for those who love nature and photography, with beautiful landscapes and biodiversity. The subtropical climate of this region allowed the development of a rich and unique flora, the Laurissilva, endemic to Macaronesia (region formed by the archipelagos of Madeira, Azores, Canaries and Cape Verde). Due to these conditions the Azores is home to several unique species and subspecies that only exist in the archipelago, that deserve to be protected.
